Strategy is one of the most important, yet least understood parts of an entrepreneurs toolbox. In fact, strategy and its accompanying theories and frameworks can be used in any part of your life, even for achieving personal goals.

 

So, what is strategy? The dictionary says that it “a plan of action designed to achieve a long-term or overall aim”, but in reality, we don’t need that many words, in fact, we only need one: winning. Strategy is all about how to win. What you define as winning is up to you; it could be to grow your business and become the market leader, help your community, or even raise your kids. There are no limits to what strategy can be used for, as long as you have a goal you want to achieve.

This course will primarily be based around using strategy inside your own business, but the theories and frameworks we discuss are equally applicable for entrepreneurs, start-ups, freelancers, or anyone with a long-term goal in mind.

The format for Five Minute Strategy is simple: Five lessons, each no more than five minutes each, all covering the critical foundations for organisational strategy and strategic thinking. By the end of the course, you will have a new set of tools that you can apply immediately, as well as (I hope) a hunger to learn more about this exciting and dynamic topic.

The course is comprised of the following lessons:

1) Introduction to the course and strategy

2) Strategy: A roadmap

3) Thinking outside the box

4) Never use SWOT again

5) Lean methodologies

6) Bringing it all together: One-page strategy

The class project is to draw/write/sketch/design a strategy to WIN that fits on a single A4 piece of paper.
